How to Use Construction Site Lighting

Site lights help to bring illumination to construction sites, offering visibility to keep you working for as long as you need, but also to reduce risk of accidents, such as tripping over wires.

Each model has their own unique purpose on a site, whether they work for directional light or maximise portability. Here’s what you need to know about site lights types how to use construction site lighting on your next project.

Twinspot and Bulkhead Site Light Uses

The emergency twinspot offers focused, adjustable lighting should there be a sudden loss of power. In these situations, without a clear plan and emergency lighting, sites are more likely to encounter safety risks, and security related issues.

This means that a twinspot may be an optimum luminaire to cover larger spaces, and can even be fixed in exterior spaces, as it has an IP65 rating.

The bulkhead also has an emergency function but can offer light during normal operation as well. The bulkhead may serve better in indoor or more confined areas, such as rooms without windows, but can be installed on a wall or ceiling, making it flexible and dependable. With the additional use of the ISO 7010 exit legend set that comes with it, it provides a clear path for people on site to evacuate a space calmly and effectively.

Uplight Uses

Uplights offer 360 degrees of illumination – ours generates 8200lm – which makes it perfect for large indoor spaces, brightly lighting all corners of a room. Stand this in indoor spaces like basements or places with high ceilings. Its bright lumen output might also reduce the need for more lights in that space.

  • Festoon Site Light Uses

Festoons are long chains of lamps and are lightweight. This makes them perfect for affixing to scaffolding or for easily lighting long corridors, ensuring your safety moving around the site. Their small size also works for more confined spaces and keeps areas on walls or ceilings more clear in comparison to some other fitting. The simple chain makes it very easy to install; combined with the festoon splitter, chain up multiple models together for longer chains.

    Floodlight Site Light Uses

Floodlights offer powerful and directional light, great for areas that include machinery or pointing up at walls and facades. Their strong lumen output also means that you can secure them to the wall greater distances, making them an ideal solution for high rooms or lighting the boundaries of a site, including site offices and welfare units for late or overnight work, keeping vehicle and pedestrian routes well-lit and safe.

    A-Frame Site Light Uses

A-Frames are standalone, easy to carry but offer light in a singular direction, unlike an uplight. These make great solutions for temporary work zones and low glare. Use these for plastering, decorating or for uneven indoor floors with its durable metallic frame.

  • Globe Light Uses

The size of a globe light means that it is very easily transportable and, with its emergency function, offers light without a need for wires (once charged). This small luminaire also offers 360 degrees of light. The globe light is for the installer on the move often, or working at a location that is not yet wired up.  The hook attached to the bottom of a globe light also means you can suspend it easily from a ceiling or wall.

The tripod for the globe light makes this model even more versatile, making it a more permanent fixture if you’re working in a spot for lengthier periods.

    Batten Site Light Uses

Anti-Corrosive battens are ceiling or wall fittings that offer reliable, bright illumination anywhere on site, keeping areas well lit and working spaces clear. With various lengths available, there is a solution for any space. Its anti-corrosive features make these models weatherproof, capable of enduring rain and wind, making it a tough solution with a soft light.

    Hoarding Light Uses

The hoarding light has a unique benefit, being dual voltage. Our hoarding light operates at both 240V and 110V. This wall fitting is also versatile with its diffusers. With opal, prismatic and a red diffuser, you have a wall light that is flexible for a range of site light situations – including marking temporary construction boundaries, indicating scaffolding or fencing. The available bracket that comes with the hoarding light makes it easy for you to install no matter the location.

    Tripod Site Light Uses

The tripod offers versatility. It’s portable and the adjustable head allows you to tilt the anti-corrosive batten attached to the desired angle. Choose to have the batten directed at the wall or tilt the head to direct the focused light to the ceiling with ease.
